At the National Institutes of Health's database of diseases and research, only one citation was found that described any problems arising from waxing. This report was made in the year of 1986, in Australia. It is unknown exactly what caused a number of women who had received leg waxing to develop "Pseudomonas Folliculitis"1. This is essentially a bunch of pimples, and more commonly arises as a response to long-term use of anti-acne medication. It is just a little problem that clears up on its own between 2 and 10 days.
The best way to limit the existence of this bacteria arising from a leg waxing is to maintain the wax at a temperature higher than 105.8°F. (41°C.) 2. Gentle Journey's wax is kept at 150° F. There is little chance of much bacteria growing at that temperature. This temp is about the same as a steak you pull off a bar-b-que.
You'd think that it would be uncomfortable on the skin at that temperature, but its not. In the few moments between when the wax leaves the pot and reaches the skin, the wax cools off enormously. We've never had a burn or anybody even complaining about the temperature of the wax.
Wax is spread on to the skin with a spatula. Each spatula is used for one patient and then sterilized in Barbicide for later use.
Personal hygiene is a must. Taking a shower the day of your waxing is highly encouraged with particular attention paid to the area in question including the area around the anus. Personal hygiene will make the esthetician's job a bit easier too.
Clip your pubic hair down to 1/4 inch in length. Pubic hair that is clipped down to a quarter inch high is the easiest to remove and that will cause less discomfort. You can trim your pubic hair with scissors, mustache clippers, or hair clippers. Don't shave it down to nothing because at the shorter lengths the hair is very stiff and difficult to remove.
If you are especially sensitive to pain, you can take a pain reliever 1/2 hour prior to your waxing.
The specific procedure requires you to either remove your underwear, or if possible squeeze it down so that it is only a thin vertical strip. If the waxing also includes the area around the buttocks, you'll want to be prepared to roll over so our female esthetician can have access to this hair as well. Towels and privacy are provided as best can be achieved. Our esthetician has a great sense of humor and most experience a rather entertaining time in the waxing room.
The actual waxing includes the spreading of a warm wax on to the area. A strip of unbleached fabric is then pressed down on to that wax and quickly removed taking with the material the wax and the hair that was stuck to the wax. This process is repeated until all the hair is gone. Any individual hairs that are left may be removed by plucking them out with tweezers.
The first time tends to give rise to a bit more discomfort than subsequent waxing appointments. At Gentle Journey we pride ourselves on our esthetician's quick and gentle techniques. During subsequent appointments you'll discover that there is even less discomfort during the waxing.
Bleeding at the site of the hair removal can occur as little dots of red if your hair is especially thick or hard. Removing a patch of skin is not considered a successful waxing outcome and should be avoided.
Its normal to see some redness which will generally go away in a few hours. If there is a little stickiness that remains it is a little bit of the wax left over on your skin. It can be removed by sprinkling on some talcum powder and lightly rubbed off.
We don't recommend showering after a waxing for a couple of hours or swimming in the ocean for 24 hours. The shower's heat seems to irritate the skin immediately following a waxing and salt water is even more irritating.
The optimum period to redo your Gentle Journey bikini wax is every four to six weeks depending on how quickly your hair grows back. It can be waxed most easily when it regrows to a quarter inch in length.
Brazilian and Playboy are not very well defined terms although everybody seems to be using them. Regardless of what we call the style, our goal is to simply provide you with as much or as little hair removal as you would like. While working with the Gentle Journey esthetician, you can discuss exactly how much hair you would like removed.
It isn't a good idea to have a waxing during the period for two reasons. One is that your are far more sensitive to pain during the period and the other is for health and hygiene of the esthetician and others who follow.
If you sweat easily, are overweight, or have a yeast infection you may have a higher propensity toward odors arising from your nether regions. Talcum powder and clothing that allows for air to circulate will help keep you cool, dry, and comfortable. Plus the amount of odors arising from your moist areas will be far less. Remember, when your esthetician can work comfortably, you'll get better results. Try doing any sort of detail work in which you feel the need to hold your breath. I think that you understand what we're talking about. ; )
Vaginal discharge can also indicate a health condition that can often times be successfully addressed with Chinese herbal medicines. We encourage you to visit Beyond Well Being for more information on Chinese herbal medicines that address some of the issues that can come oozing out from down yonder.
If you are attempting to get pregnant and find the need to allow your partner's genetic material to remain within you in hopes of conception, there may be an odor that may not be evident to your nose. So, if you've engaged in reproductive activities prior to the waxing appointment, please clean the external areas that may be exposed to the waxing and if at all possible, clean the internal areas to limit the odors that may arise from said fluid interactions.
